Family selection process

When a family is selected for Associação Humanitária Domus house construction or rehabilitation program, it is a life-changing opportunity.

There are many families who need access to affordable housing that Associação Humanitária Domus can help, the organization ensures that each family it selects is ready to completely take advantage of the opportunity. It is our conviction and experience that a family that has the possibility of living in a decent and safe house also has the foundations to develop a healthy and constructive family life.

Associação Humanitária Domus has three basic criteria a family must meet to be selected for a house construction or rehabilitation.

Therefore, the family has to have a demonstrated need for housing. This could mean they currently live in substandard rental housing and without living conditions.

The family must have the ability to pay the mortgage for the new or rehabilitated home. All Associação Humanitária Domus mortgages are zero-interest.

They must be willing to be a partner, not just a beneficiary. This includes rolling up their sleeves, working at the build site with the building team and volunteers.

The selection of the families helped by Associação Humanitária Domus is conducted through a process that involves several structures of the organization. This process begins with the filling of the application form by the family and the delivery of several documents that will be analyzed by the Families Committee. If the family meets the criteria, the Construction Committee conducts a home visit and prepares a report that will be detailed discussed with the family before the intervention starts.
